Mathematics
Mathematics for the Real World
At Lynn-Rose Heights, we believe that mathematics is a natural activity to children. Children learn mathematics best when they construct their own understandings. Subsequently, our mathematics program provides worthwhile activities that require our students to explore, communicate and reflect on important mathematical ideas and procedures in a variety of contexts.
Communication is promoted through groups working co-operatively and is enhanced by students writing about their mathematical ideas, processes and questions. In this manner, students learn mathematical skills through problem solving, and practice these skills through independent work. We use the tools of technology: computers and calculators and concrete objects to help students learn to solve problems in ways that prepare them for the future. |
